ZOT
PROJECT TITLE
Zot
LOGLINE
ZOT is a nocturnal hunter with a single hypnotic eye who hunts high-heel fish until he encounters one, he cannot hypnotize, causing his own power to turn against him.
SYNOPSIS
Zot is a nocturnal creature that feeds on fish shaped like high-heeled shoes. To hunt them, it hypnotizes them with its single eye before swallowing them. One warm night ZOT flies through the window of a house and discovers, inside a fishbowl, two high-heel fish; the smaller one wears small glasses. From the air, it hypnotizes the larger fish and swallows it in a matter of seconds. Two nights later, hungry, it returns for the fish that remained. It tries to hypnotize it with the same technique, but the fish does not respond to the hypnosis because it is blind. ZOT intensifies its hypnosis to catch it. Suddenly, one of the waves hits the lens of the fish’s glasses and bounces directly back at ZOT. Dazed, it loses control and falls into the fishbowl; in that instant the unexpected happens. ZOT becomes a high-heel fish.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This stop-motion animated short presents a nocturnal and surreal world inhabited by two strange creatures. The story explores the relationship between hunter and prey within a universe governed by seemingly simple rules that gradually reveal a fundamental irony: the predator ultimately becomes the prey. Told without dialogue, the film relies on visual action and a distinctive sound —ZOT— that accompanies the decisive moments of the hunt. The story begins outside at night and moves into the interior of a house, where the encounter between both creatures unfolds in a film of approximately five minutes.
DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
I am interested in exploring a universe where appearances of power can unexpectedly reverse. In this story, the one who seems to dominate the situation ultimately loses control, while the one who appears more vulnerable alters the outcome without intending to. This stop-motion short film unfolds in a dialogue-free world where the characters’ actions and physical space become essential to sustaining the narrative. Visually, I aim to build a story with characters emerging from a surreal universe, portraying their everyday existence within an environment that feels dark and mysterious—one that may appear ominous, yet strangely familiar.
